HURLEY – The Hurley Town Board Tuesday withdrew its proposed nine-month moratorium on certain types of development in the town.

The vote, taken immediately after a second public hearing on the issue was unanimous, 5-0.

“Over the course of the two hearings about the proposal, it became clear that Hurley residents did not favor a moratorium being enacted,” Town Supervisor Melinda McKnight said after Tuesday evening’s Town Board meeting. “We took their comments to heart and deferred to their judgment.”

McKnight said the town government is not anti-development; rather, it aims “to make well-conceived proposals better and ensure that ill-conceived proposals do not come to fruition without being improved significantly.”

She said the town would continue to monitor development proposals and act in accordance with local laws “to ensure that proposed projects serve the best interests of our residents.”
