“Yonkers is a city of immigrants and there’s no city that has been more welcoming to them,” said Mayor Mike Spano. “We are compassionate to the plight of asylum seekers and the City of Yonkers will always step up to aid others in need. However, the sheer lack of communication and planning from New York City on this crucial matter is unacceptable.”

Yonkers Republican Minority Leader Mike Breen said they are being housed in a Yonkers hotel “paid for with some of the over $1 billion Mayor Adams received to care for the migrants his city received. These funds were not given to Mayor Adams to export the migrants to neighboring cities.”

Breen said every level of government that authorized sending the migrants to Yonkers should be “responsible for the full expense of them being here. That would include any housing, education, medical and any other unforeseen expenses incurred.”
