Teen sentenced for 2020 murder

WHITE PLAINS – An 18-year-old Dover, Delaware man was sentenced on Friday in Westchester County Court to nine years to life in state prison for the 2020 murder of a Yonkers resident.

Maliki Johnson, who was 15 at the time of the killing, was prosecuted as a juvenile offender for shooting 27-year-old Javon Merrill to death as he left a store on Ashburton Avenue in Yonkers at around 9:35 p.m. on October 27, 2020.

The shooting was captured on video.

Johnson discarded a sweatshirt as he fled the scene. The garment was recovered, which was linked to him through DNA evidence.

He was arrested on August 4, 2021 in Dover, Delaware by Dover Police and the US Marshals Service First State Fugitive Task Force.

Johnson pled guilty to murder on March 3, 2023.
