STONY POINT- The New York Blood Center will be hosting a blood drive with the Stony Point First Responders on Sunday, April 30th from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Stony Point Fire Substation located at 199 Central Highway in Stony Point.  The blood drive will be in memory of Jack Coleman, a former Stony Point Police Officer and beloved member of the Stony Point community.

Jack served at the Stony Point Police Department for 30 years, where he rose to the rank of Detective Sergeant.  He retired from the Police Department in 2009, but remained actively involved with many of the organizations he worked with over the years.  Jack also drove a bus for the local school bus company for 13 years before he passed away in November of 2022.

Blood donors can give every 56 days, and platelet donors can give twice per month.  The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently lifted eligibility restrictions for individuals who lived in Europe during certain periods of time.  To view current eligibility guidelines, visit nybc.org or call 800.688.0900.

It only takes one hour to donate, and a single donation can save multiple lives.  Roughly one in seven hospital admissions require a blood transfusion.  Those in need include:  cancer patients, accident, burn, or trauma victims, newborn babies and their mothers, transplant recipients, surgery patients, chronically transfused patients suffering from sickle cell disease or thalassemia, and many more.

To make an appointment at this blood drive, donors can call 1-800-933-2566 or click HERE.  Can’t donate blood?  You can still support NYBC’s mission by texting ‘NYBC’ to ‘20222’ to give $25.
