ALBANY – Over 50 school districts in New York State received “swatting” threats on Tuesday and law enforcement continue to investigate each incident.

There were several in the Putnam-Westchester area recently and Westchester Executive George Latimer has a theory about the incidents.

“Somebody out there is trying to test, trying to probe our system. That’s the only way I can interpret this,” he said. “We are not alone. There was a probe done similarly in the Pittsburgh a few days before. Upstate New York has had an experience. It seems to be happening around the country.”

Governor Kathy Hochul said police on all levels are investigating the incidents “to identify the perpetrators, hold them accountable, and restore the sense of safety and security our children deserve.”
