POUGHKEEPSIE – Dutchess County’s Recently announced housing trust program that will provide $8.9 million in ARPA funds for the development of 600 housing units is a good start, but only scratches the surface of what is needed not only in Dutchess but across the Hudson Valley, according to County Executive Bill O’Neil.

But O’Neil said that could help jumpstart the need for more affordable housing.

“I think it’s touching the surface. One of the things we are hoping is that once we start this in kind of becomes part and parcel within the municipalities and we need the municipalities,” he said. “They control the zoning The control the approvals on these projects.”

The municipalities can have an impact on getting affordable housing, he said. “Our hope is that we are catalytic,” O’Neil said.
