GOSHEN – By a 12 to three vote, Orange County legislators Tuesday opposed Senator James Skoufis’ (D, Cornwall) budget proposal to create a state monitor with veto power over the county industrial development agency.
Among the three Democrats to support the plan was Laurie Tautel, who doesn’t like the way the IDA board operates now.
“It’s like a freaking shell game. The IDA hands out all these tax breaks. What about all these mom and pops? They don’t get it because they are only creating two or three jobs. I am so tired of it,” she said.
County Executive Steven Neuhaus also opposed the Skoufis proposal as well as Todd Diorio, president of the Hudson Valley Building and Construction Trades Council. “Given the fact that New York State is a very costly and highly regulated environment in which to conduct business, IDAs plan a crucial role in leveling the playing field for counties striving to attract critical job-creating development projects,” he said.
