Former Assemblyman Colin Schmitt

NEW CITY – Former State Assemblyman Colin Schmitt of New Windsor has been appointed as the director of finance for the Town of Clarkstown.

Schmitt served four years as a ranking member of the Local Governments Committee in the Assembly where he represented parts of Rockland and Orange counties.

He is also a member of the Army National Guard.

Prior to his state post, Schmitt served as chief of staff in the Town of New Windsor and apparently has his sights on the town supervisor’s job this fall.

“I have no formal announcements on that part. I certainly appreciate people who are encouraging me in the Town of New Windsor to seek local office there – local supervisor – but they would be two separate and distinct opportunities and either/or action does not impact the other,” he told Mid-Hudson News.

New Windsor Republicans have said, though, that they have seen petitions circulated with Schmitt seeking the New Windsor top job.
