MONTICELLO- According to the New York State Department of Labor (DOL) Sullivan County led all upstate counties, yet again, in job growth for last month.  Overall, the NYS economy added 23,600 private sector jobs in January 2023 with Sullivan leading all upstate counties for both the month of January, and prior year.

The number of private sector jobs is based on a payroll survey of New York businesses conducted by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics.  According to the data, Sullivan County’s job growth from January 2022 to January 2023 represented an increase of 6.3 percent.

Chairman of the Legislature, Rob Doherty, said “Through a lot of hard work, the county legislature has achieved financial stability for the first time in two generations.  This stability has created an environment that encourages investment and job growth.”

Cattaraugus County, which is most similar in population and demographics to Sullivan, reported -0.3 percent growth, and neighboring Delaware County reported a flat zero.
