PLEASANT VALLEY – Town Supervisor John “Johnny Del” DelVecchio canceled Monday’s town meeting at the last minute due to a public health scare.  Two public meetings were scheduled for Monday night until Del Vecchio was made aware of possible exposure to MRSA minutes before the meetings.

According to the town supervisor, a participant in an earlier meeting in the building was allegedly positive for the MRSA illness.  He refused to identify the infected individual and noted that he authorized an outside contractor to clean the building.

The cancellations drew criticism from the public, many of whom noted that the town’s auditor was scheduled to present their findings regarding the town’s finances for 2022.

DelVecchio told Mid-Hudson News that the cancellation was a result of a public health concern as opposed to hiding the audit results.  The auditors traveled from Buffalo to explain their findings, only to learn that the building was closed.

“In the interest of public safety, I took the action to cancel both the zoning board public hearing as well as the town board workshop meeting on March 6, 2023,” he said.  In addition to closing the building for Monday, DelVecchio closed the facility for Tuesday as well.   “The Pleasant Valley Town Hall will remain closed tomorrow, March 7, 2023,” DelVecchio said.

The supervisor told Mid-Hudson News that all of the information that was to be shared on Monday night will be on the town board agenda for the regular meeting, scheduled for March 20, 2023.
