ALBANY – The New York State Police are continuing an investigation into the discharge of a State Police-issued firearm by Major Kathryne Rohde, the Commander of Troop K for the State Police.  The incident reported here, occurred inside the Major’s Greene County home on February 15, 2023.

According to State Police Spokesman, Trooper William Duffy, Major Rohde was alone in a room in the home when a single round was discharged, and there were no injuries.

Investigators have completed a Domestic Incident Report (DIR) related to the incident.  Sources have told Mid-Hudson News that Major Rohde and her teenage daughter had been arguing minutes before the gun was fired.  The State Police say the daughter was home at the time the weapon was fired but was in another room of the house.

Asked if Major Rohde had been suspended until the investigation is completed, Trooper Duffy said “There has been no change in Major Rohde’s employment status.”

Troop K encompasses Columbia, Dutchess, Putnam, and Westchester Counties, and is headquartered in Salt Point in Dutchess County.
