WURTSBORO – Two trucks collided Thursday morning at the intersection of Sullivan Street and Route 209, causing one of the trucks to spin around and slam through the wall of Chuck’s Auto Repair. The accident occurred at approximately 11:15 a.m.  No serious injuries have been reported.

Shop owner Chuck Baker was sitting at his desk when he heard the air horns from one of the trucks blaring down the hill.  He looked up to see a truck carrying concrete forms coming down the hill with what appeared to be a brake failure.  “He was coming down and he lost his brakes,” Baker told Mid-Hudson News.  The runaway truck struck the tail end of a semi-tractor (no trailer attached), The collision spun the tractor around, sending it backward, crashing through the wall of Chuck’s Auto Repair, while Chuck was at his desk.  He was able to move away from the desk just a second before the truck came through the wall, sending the desk across the office, and striking the shop owner.  Mr. Baker’s dog, Kiki, was also in the shop and crawled through the rubble and exited the building to find her owner.  She was “shaken up” but otherwise uninjured Baker said.

The building where Baker has had his business for 17 years was severely damaged and authorities prohibited him from re-entering the structure.

The truck carrying the forms rolled over after the wreck, spilling the forms onto the roadway.  The debris had to be moved before the truck could be uprighted and towed from the scene.

The accident also resulted in one of the trucks rupturing a fuel tank, causing diesel fuel to leak into the intersection.

The New York State Police are investigating the accident.
