NEWBURGH – Congressman Pat Ryan (D, NY-18) has represented that new district for just a week and on Friday he announced a $5 million investment in the City of Newburgh.
Ryan said the funds will add to the renewed growth in the city.
“To build on the momentum, to build on the positive trajectory after some really, really divisive years, how can we, down in Washington, just actually help make sure we are bringing resources to build on the great work that you all have been doing here, to build energy and momentum and positivity in the City of Newburgh, Orange County and the Hudson Valley,” he said.
A total of $1 million will go to SUNY Orange for development of a new FoodTEC program that College President Dr., Kristine Young said will provide workforce training in the culinary industry. The program will also include daycare services for children of participants.
Young said the program will begin this spring.
Four million dollars will help fund reconstruction of the pier on the Hudson River. Mayor Torrance Harvey said the city other sources of funding to cover the total estimated cost of some $8 million.
He said there has already been interest by cruise lines to use the dock in the deep-water port.
