MONTICELLO – A Liberty man was convicted of criminal possession of drugs and a weapon for possession of more than eight ounces of cocaine and fentanyl along with a loaded handgun in the Village of Liberty earlier this year.

Malcolm Ford, 57, was arrested after police executed a search warrant at an apartment at 193 Chestnut Street.

Police recovered evidence of Ford’s narcotics distribution operation, including cocaine, fentanyl and a loaded and operable .25 caliber Beretta piston.

Ford pled guilty on Wednesday, December 19 in advance of jury selection, which was set to begin in January.

He faces 19 years in prison plus post-release supervision when sentenced in February.

“This quantity of narcotics posed a real threat to public safety in Sullivan County, particularly when combined with this defendant’s illegal possession of a handgun,” said Chief Assistant Sullivan County District Attorney Brian Conaty.

The investigation involved the State Police Violent Gang and Narcotics Enforcement Unit and Village of Liberty Police.
