WHITE PLAINS – A 15-year-old girl who fatally stabbed a 16-year-old girl in Mount Vernon on the afternoon of April 8, 2022, is expected to be sentenced to three to nine years in state prison, Westchester County District Attorney Miriam Rocah said on Tuesday.

The defendant was said to be a cheerleading rival of the victim, Kayla Green. She is scheduled to be sentenced in January 2023.

The assailant pled guilty to manslaughter in the stabbing that took place just before 4 p.m. after a school celebration. Green was a Mount Vernon High School sophomore.

“Today, the defendant has taken responsibility for ending the life of Kayla Green and now faces consequences for this tragic and devastating incident,” said the DA. “We hope the families of all impacted by this senseless violence can begin the journey to healing.”

The defendant was also charged in connection with the stabbing of another teenager at the scene of the incident. Under New York law, at the time of the defendant’s plea, those additional charges were dismissed due to defendant’s age.
