Man who crashed into school buildings charged

HAMLET OF WALLKILL – The Walden man who crashed his vehicle into three Wallkill Central School District buildings has been charged with felony criminal mischief, driving while intoxicated, driving while ability impaired buy a combination of drugs and alcohol, and reckless driving.

The Ulster County Sheriff’s Office said on Sunday, November 20, Jason Hepper, 33, intentionally drove his vehicle into the front of the Wallkill district administration building’s front entrance causing significant damage to the front door area.

He fled the scene when deputies approached him and a short distance away, struck a utility pole coming to rest off the road.

Investigation determined Hepper had also intentionally driven his vehicle into Borden Middle School and the Wallkill Senior High School, located in in the Town of Shawangunk.

Both buildings sustained significant damage.

Hepper was admitted to Garnet Health Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill where he was treated for minor injuries. He was released 10 days later and arrested.

Following arraignment, he was released on his own recognizance pending a future court appearance.

Sheriff’s deputies were assisted by the Walden Police Department, Wallkill Fire Department, Life Net and Wallkill Rescue.
