YONKERS – The Yonkers Police Department says it has received several reports of scam artists targeting members of the Hispanic immigrant community.

Specifically, scammers are approaching unsuspecting victims with the promise to share a lottery prize in exchange for a down payment to secure legal services or act as collateral (or a variation thereof).

Police say the scammers may walk the victim to different store fronts as part of the deception, such as a professional building, bank, or law office, and after convincing the victim to turn over cash or jewelry, the scammers will disappear.

Detectives are actively investigating the local occurrences. The two suspects are described as an older light-skin Hispanic male in his late 60’s and a dark-skin Hispanic male in his 40’s.

Members of the public should be aware and share this information with their community, police advise.
