KINGSTON – A Veterans Day ceremony was conducted Friday at American Legion Post 150, and a Civil War era Parrott Rifle, manufactured at the West Point Foundry, was unveiled at the entrance of the legion hall as part of the commemoration.

The Forte family, after acquiring the rifle many decades ago, donated the weapon to American Legion Post 150.

“Some of you have experienced the loss of loved ones while they were serving. On this day, I would ask that you remember, as we should, those who are still serving,” said Bill Forte, of the Kingston Veterans Association. “It does not matter if its active duty, reserves, National Guard or Air Guard. It does not matter if they served overseas in combat or never left the country; they stepped up when they were needed, they answered the call.”

After Forte commended the veterans and their family for their dedication, Mayor Steve Noble thanked his city for it reverence toward the veterans in the community. “Thank you on behalf of the City of Kingston for your continued service to your country,” said the mayor. “Kingston is dedicated to it veterans. It’s really great to be able to see that.”
