CRONOMER VALLEY – A member of the Cronomer Valley Fire Department sustained injuries while fighting a brush fire on Thursday when he was struck by a vehicle as he was obtaining a water supply line on Chestnut Lane, department officials said.

The fireman, whose name was not released, was flown to Westchester Medical Center for evaluation and was to be released in the evening for follow-up with his doctors.

Cronomer Valley firefighters were assisted with the late afternoon fire by departments from Middle Hope, Goodwill, Winona Lake, and Plattekill, Town of Newburgh EMS, Mobile Life Support Services, and Town of Newburgh and State Police.

Town of Newburgh residents are reminded there are no open fires allowed in the town. Leaves can be bagged for pick up by the town highway department at curbside beginning on November 14.
