Funeral today for former police officer who served at Ground Zero

CATSKILL – Funeral services are being held today (Thursday) for Ivan Morales, the 42-year-old former police officer who died from complications he suffered as a result of serving in the rescue and recovery efforts at Ground Zero after the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center in New York City on September 11, 2001.

Morales, a resident of Catskill at the time of death, passed away on Friday, October 28, 2022.

He began his career with the New York City Police Department just months before the attacks, in July 2001.

He later joined the State Police where he served for 17 years before retiring as a sergeant for Troop T, the Thruway.

A funeral service for the former officer is being held at 2 p.m. today (Thursday) at The Community Life Church in Catskill.
