Saugerties man charged with unlicensed DWI

SAUGERTIES – A 61-year-old Town of Saugerties man was arrested on Wednesday, October 12 on DWI charges as well as aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle after a witness saw the U-Haul truck he was driving swerve on and off Blue Mountain Road.

Saugerties Police received a call that the vehicle nearly struck two mailboxes, and a fence, ran off the road, and overcorrected veering into oncoming traffic.

Officers located the vehicle and the driver, identified as Kenneth Beams of Saugerties. He fled on foot but was apprehended.

Beam submitted to a chemical test at police headquarters where his blood alcohol content was .21 percent.

He had previously been charged with DWI in June 2022 resulting in the revocation of his operating privileges.

As a result of the latest offense, he was charged with driving while intoxicated, aggravated DWI, obstructing governmental administration, and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
