MONROE – Sixteen Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion posts in 39th State Senate District portions of Orange and Rockland counties will receive $50,000 each to upgrade their facilities, State Senator James Skoufis announced on Tuesday.

The funds are coming from the state budget that was approved in Albany last spring.

The senator said the grants will come in handy given that the local groups do not receive any money from local governments.

“Every single American Legion, VFW, Catholic War Veterans post with a building in our Senate district that requested help, that was looking for funding, is getting $50,000 from us,” he said.

Among the improvements, organizations will upgrade roofs, heating and air conditioning systems, septic systems, interior and exterior improvements and other projects.
