KINGSTON – A groundbreaking ceremony was conducted Tuesday on the full rehabilitation of four homes in the City of Kingston, including one on 29 Rogers Street as part of the Legacy City ACCESS program.

The program is a partnership with New York State Homes and Community Renewal and the Community Preservation Corporation with the four single-family properties sold to income-eligible first-time home buyers in Kingston.

“This is first of four houses that will be renovated under this new state program,” said Mayor Steve Noble. “We’re really happy to be the first in New York State to be able to close in this program.”

The homes were foreclosed properties that were transferred by the city to the Kingston City Land Bank for development, and this is this the first round of grant development. In addition to the one on Rogers Street, the remaining three are in other parts of Kingston.

Work will start on the Rogers Street residence and another soon, which will be followed by work on the other two homes. Noble said much work should be completed about a year from now.

“To be able to have these rejuvenated, renovated and into the hands of as affordable first-time homebuyer-type program homes, we’re really excited about that,” the mayor said.
