HURLEY – A bear that broke into a vehicle off Route 28 in the Town of Hurley is okay, but the vehicle sustained heavy damage, according to state environmental conservation officers.

State troopers shut down the road while EnCon Officers Johnson and Walraven positioned their vehicles at the back end of the vehicle with the bear to create a funnel in a safe direction.

The officers then used a rope to open the back hatch and force the bear out.

The animal appeared unharmed, but the vehicle sustained heavy damage.
