Rockland County Executive Ed Day

POMONA – In the eight years since Rockland County Executive Ed Day took office, his administration has closed a $138 million deficit and for the second year in a row, his proposed annual budget includes no county property tax increase.

Day unveiled his $812.4 million spending plan on Monday that includes no layoffs and no program cuts.

“When I was first elected to serve as your county executive, the New York State Comptroller’s Office listed Rockland County as the most fiscally stressed county in the entire state and our bond rating was one step above junk,” he said. “In August of this year, Moody’s Investor Services upgraded the county’s bond rating in Rockland, now among the top fiscally strongest counties in the entire State of New York, an achievement only six other counties have reached. We have literally transformed this county from worst to first.”

Day’s budget includes reestablishing the position of commissioner of general services, adds $1.45 million for additional positions to strengthen services, and includes $1.5 million for college tuition assistance for volunteer firefighters and emergency responders.
