MONTICELLO – The highly successful “Move Sullivan” public bus service is being expanded.

Dubbed “Move Sullivan,” the three-year-old program has been providing service to two dozen stops across 10 locations. It will now add 18 new stops and eight communities.

County Manager Josh Potosek said the service is changing the lives of people who live in the large, rural county.

“When you talk to people and you hear ‘I wouldn’t have a job if it weren’t for Move Sullivan’, or ‘I couldn’t get to the doctor if it weren’t for Move Sullivan’ or ‘I couldn’t get to the grocery store if it weren’t for Move Sullivan’,” he told Mid-Hudson News. “That is so gratifying from a government official perspective when our job is to help people,” Potosek said.

County Community Resources Commissioner Laura Quigley said they are also studying, in conjunction with Garnet Health Medical Center Catskills, providing service to transport people to medical appointments and that could, in time, include service to Ellenville Regional Hospital in Ulster County and Garnet Medical Health Center in Orange County.

The newly expanded bus routes, operating Mondays through Fridays, service the communities of:

  • Monticello
  • Liberty
  • Harris
  • South Fallsburg
  • Woodridge
  • Loch Sheldrake
  • Ferndale
  • White Lake
  • Rock Hill
  • Wurtsboro
  • Mongaup Valley
  • Swan Lake
  • Summitville
  • Bloomingburg
  • Kiamesha Lake
  • Smallwood
  • Fallsburg
  • Woodbourne
  • Kauneonga Lake and
  • Hurleyville

There is no charge for the passengers to use the service.

Ulster County recently also dropped fares on its UCAT – Ulster County Area Transit – bus service.
