NEWBURGH – The mother of a student at Newburgh Free Academy Main has had it with the Newburgh school district.

She said her daughter was bullied last school year by a boy, who was given a “slap on the wrist in-school suspension.”

We are not releasing the names of the mother and daughter for their protection.

Now, the mom said in a Facebook post that her daughter was attacked and beaten by another high school girl at last weekend’s varsity football game. The answer from administration, the mother recounted was, “we will investigate.”

She wrote that “these kids should be held accountable for their poor behavior. No repercussions and it continues to happen.”

The mother of the girl who was attacked said, “let’s cry when the same kid comes to a school with a gun and goes crazy. ‘But he was such a good kid, we never saw this coming’,” she said. “Open up your eyes Newburgh. This is disgusting.”

Meanwhile, there has been no comment from school district administration, but a school board member, Ryan Lamar, said he is “dismayed at the violent assault that has already taken place on the grounds of NFA Main.”

In a social media post, he said “violence cannot be tolerated. I stand with our community in asking that rules be enforced with consequences.”

Lamar said students “must feel safe and secure in our schools.”

He urged parents to know the code of conduct, ask for a seat on school building and district safety committees and attend school board meetings to tell their stories and demand the code of conduct be enforced uniformly.

“The adults in our community must stand up and say that we will start this school year with zero tolerance for violence,” Lamar said.
