HARRIS – Sullivan County continues to have the distinction of having the next to the worst healthcare outcomes in the state, according to an annual study, a status the county has had for years.

But, despite economy-driven belt-tightening, Garnet Regional Medical Center – Catskills is doing its part to raise the level of care, said Chief Operating Officer Jerry Dunlavey.

“It’s great to be able to save one’s life when they get very sick, but what is really important and what’s going to change the health status indicators in Sullivan County is making sure that patients have access to care, and access to care early so that we can talk about prevention or managing disease or identifying disease in its early stages rather than have to wait for a catastrophic event that a patient is subject to,” he told Mid-Hudson News.

Because of the economic impacts related to COVID, the hospital is closing its CRMC Primary Care Montreign site in Monticello, affecting three employees, as well as the CRMCG Physicians OBGYN in Harris with one employee affected.

Hospital in-patient services in those fields will not be impacted by the closures, which take effect on November 9.
