WHITE LAKE – A second family member has died following the tragic drowning incident in White Lake last Sunday.

Afrid Haider, 34, the uncle of the other two victims, died at Garnet Health Medical Center Catskills in Harris, State Police said Tuesday.

Basir Amin, 18, was pronounced dead on Sunday.

His sister, Nasrin Amin, 21, remains in critical condition.

The three, from Bellerose, New York, began swimming in the lake at around 10 a.m. At about 2 p.m., police said Basir Amin began to struggle in a deep portion of the lake. His sister and uncle attempted to assist him, but all three went under water and did not resurface.

A firefighter was able to pull them out of the lake several minutes later. They were transported to the hospital where Basir died.
