Man shot in Town of Poughkeepsie

TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE – First responders were dispatched to Vassar Gardens Apartments just after midnight Tuesday morning for a report of a man who had been shot.

Town of Poughkeepsie police responded to the scene and located a 27-year-old Bronx man that had been wounded.

Initial emergency radio reports indicated that a man had been shot in the left leg.  As first responders arrived at the scene at 468 Haight Avenue and located the victim, a dispatcher received a call from an alleged corrections officer at Hurricane Grill on Raymond Avenue who reported that his handgun had just been stolen.

The victim was transported to the hospital, treated, and released.

Police Lieutenant Patrick Barry told Mid-Hudson News that the shooting is considered to be an isolated incident among subjects that are familiar with each other, and there is no danger to the public.

The investigation is currently active and ongoing with the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Detective Bureau.  Anyone that witnessed the incident or has information regarding the shooting is asked to contact the detective bureau at 845-485-3670.
