California man flees after stop for driving stolen car

DOVER – An Antioch, California man was arrested by State Police in Columbia County for criminal possession of stolen property – a Mercedes-Benz stolen in New York City.

Shortly after 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 23, troopers received a report of the stolen vehicle traveling northbound on Route 22 in the Town of Pawling.

Troopers located the vehicle in the Town of Dover, attempted to stop it but the driver failed to comply and a pursuit was initiated.

The chase continued northbound into the Town of Amenia and then northeast into Columbia County through Ancram, Copake and Hillsdale.

A stinger device was released causing the vehicle to stop and the driver, Jordan Richards, 32, fled on foot.

The following day the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office received a trespassing complaint and Richards was taken into custody and turned over to State Police.

He was arraigned and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail without bail.
