KINGSTON – Periodically, the Kingston City Clerk’s Office receives requests from families to spread the ashes of a loved one at a city park, but there is one problem.

The city does not have a policy that allows that, so City Clerk and Registrar Elisa Tinti has asked the common council to develop guidelines.

“Everyone agrees that there should be some type of policy in place where if somebody wanted to scatter the ashes of their loved ones that they would have to contact parks and rec just so that they are aware that something is going to happen in the park and that there is not a conflict with someone who has possibly reserved the park for some type of family event,” she said.

A common council committee will discuss proposed guidelines next month and the full council may address it by the end of the year.
