WHITE PLAINS – A Bronx man was sentenced on Friday in Westchester County Court to seven years in state prison and five years of post-release supervision for slashing a man in the neck outside the White Plains Galleria in 2019.

Edwin Hernandez, 44, approached the stranger at about 10:30 a.m. on August 18, 2019, outside the entrance to the galleria on Main Street in White Plains and repeatedly asked him to share his cigarette. After the victim declined, Hernandez slashed the base of the man’s neck with a sharp object and walked away.

The victim walked into the mall where employees attended to his wound and called police. He was transported to the hospital where he received 29 stitches to close the five-inch laceration.

White Plains Police arrested Hernandez nearby shortly after the incident.

In May 2022, Hernandez pled guilty to felony assault.
