BEACON – Construction on the 246-unit 22 Edgewater Place residential rental property is underway with expectations that it will ease the housing crunch in the City of Beacon.

A 2020 study found that Beacon has a zero percent market rate housing vacancy rate.

Rodney Weber, founder of Weber Projects LLC and principal partner in Scenic Beacon Developments, said this $50 million project “is about the needs of today and tomorrow’s families, with homes that bring people closer to nature, and allow them to be refreshed by the beauty of the Hudson Valley.”

The development is located on a 12-acre waterfront site within walking distance of the Metro-North train station.

Funding comes from the Community Preservation Corporation, Salisbury Bank and Orange Bank & Trust Company.

The project will consist of seven buildings and a community building and include 25 units of affordable housing.

There will be a mix of studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments. Planned amenities will include both surface and garage parking, tenant storage areas, roof top deck, outdoor seating, a library/co-working space, fitness center and walking trails.

It will be built with high efficiency systems that eliminate fossil fuels for heating and cooling.
