PLATTSBURGH – A 48-year-old Newburgh man was sentenced in federal court to four years in prison for alien smuggling.

In pleading guilty, Marlon Lainez-Velasquez admitted that in May 2021, he traveled to the border in Burke, New York, where he assisted in smuggling five Vietnamese nationals from Canada into the United States for profit.

US District Judge Mae D’Agostino ordered that Lainez-Velasquez serve his federal term of imprisonment after he finishes serving an unrelated six-year state prison sentence for sex abuse.
