POUGHKEEPSIE – City firefighters responded to a report of a fire in a house on Maple Street at 2:57 a.m. on Thursday.  Firefighters arrived three minutes after the dispatch to find flames shooting out of three different windows on the second floor.

Our firefighters, assisted by the Arlington and Fairview fire departments searched the building for occupants but we didn’t find anyone in the vacant structure,” said Poughkeepsie Fire Chief Joe Franco.  “The firefighters did great work in containing the fire and preventing it from spreading to the neighboring buildings.”

The fire originated on the second floor.

According to Franco, the fire appears to have started on the second floor of the building and the cause is under investigation by the Poughkeepsie Fire Department.  Evidence collected at the scene is being evaluated.

While firefighters battled the Maple Street (westbound arterial) fire, city police assisted by diverting traffic away from the scene.

Firefighters remained on the scene until 5:20 a.m. on Thursday.

Dutchess County property records indicate that the two-family house is owned by Agris Investments LLC of the Bronx.
