MID-HUDSON – The COVID-19 pandemic may still be here, but several communities will be bringing back Memorial Day parades this weekend.

In the City of Newburgh, the parade will start at 10 a.m. on Monday and anticipated to end in about an hour.

The parade will begin on Richman Avenue and turn onto Third Street followed by West Street and then head down Broadway to Liberty Street and end at Washington’s Headquarters.

As in past years, residents are expected to line the streets watching the marchers from their cars are beach chairs they bring along.

The majority of Broadway will be closed to traffic during the parade, commuters are encouraged to use Water Street to travel through the city in order to avoid parade road closures.

At 1 p.m. on the same day, the Village of Fishkill will hold its annual Memorial Day Parade on Main Street.

Supervisor Ozzie Albra and the town board hope residents will attend Monday’s events and remember the sacrifices of heroes like Daniel Nimham, the Native American who fought along with American colonists and who will be honored with a bronze statue at the corner of Route 82 and 82.

The City of Kingston is also among the communities with parades with its expected to step off at around 12 noon.

Municipalities, veterans organizations and community groups are also holding ceremonies and services to mark the day and remember those who sacrificed their lives for our country.
