GOSHEN – Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler announced on Friday that following his office’s investigation into the future resignation and paid leave of absence of Newburgh School Superintendent Roberto Padilla, no criminal charges will be filed as the DA said the investigation by his attorneys and investigators found insufficient evidence of the violation of any criminal statute in Orange County.

Padilla took a paid leave of absence from the district following allegations by female district staff members that he sexually harassed them during an out-of-town conference.

“I urge all arms of local government to be transparent and accountable in the work they do for the public,” said Hoovler. “While I cannot and will not comment on the internal operations of the Newburgh Enlarged City School District Board of Education, our investigation has shown that any improprieties alleged are not criminal in nature, under the laws of the State of New York.”

All through the board of education’s discussions about the allegations against Padilla, they were done in secret and even when any activities that was required to be voted upon in public, no names were mentioned.

In fact, the only mention that it was Padilla who was alleged to have sexually harassed subordinates came in a redacted investigator’s report which left in one mention of “Dr. P,” presumably missed when the document was redacted and FOILED by Mid-Hudson News.
