MONTICELLO – A Sullivan County man was sentenced to prison on Friday, May 13th, for repeatedly violating an order of protection.  Sullivan County DA Meagan Galligan announced the sentence on Friday.

Ronald Royster

Ronald Royster, 30, of Monticello, was sentenced to an aggregate prison term of 7.5 to 15 years for repeatedly violating an order of protection.  He had been convicted by a jury on March 3, 2022, on felony charges of aggravated criminal contempt, criminal contempt, aggravated family offense, and criminal mischief, related to acts against his former lover.

Royster, according to DA Galligan, repeatedly attempted to make contact with the victim, including by ringing her doorbell and throwing a rock through the window of a car parked in her driveway. He has previously been convicted of two misdemeanors and one felony criminal contempt charge for his conduct against the same woman. Royster is currently serving a 3.5-year sentence on an Orange County conviction for attempted possession of a loaded firearm; this sentence will be served consecutively to his time on that conviction.

“The victim in this case bravely faced the man who has terrified her for years,” Galligan said.  “District Attorney Galligan noted that, even at Friday’s sentencing, Royster announced his intention to continue searching for the victim.
