Alleged drunk driver ran from police while eating bags of cocaine

NEW PALTZ – A Marlboro man has been arrested by state police after a traffic stop resulted in a foot pursuit.  He was charged with several felonies and misdemeanors and then released with an appearance ticket, but not before he coughed up some evidence – plastic bags of cocaine he swallowed.

State police pulled over a BMW traveling east on Route 32 in New Paltz at 2:13 a.m. on March 23 for a vehicle and traffic violation.  The driver, identified as Nolan Casale, 21, of Marlboro, was determined to be intoxicated by the troopers who were speaking with him.  When troopers attempted to take Casale into custody, he fled on foot to Main Street and ran towards the Sunoco station.

While running, the suspect fell down a hill behind the gas station and the troopers apprehended him. While in custody, troopers discovered a plastic bag in his hand that contained cocaine. Casale then began to dry heave and threw up several additional bags plastic bags containing cocaine.

Troopers contacted Mobile Life Support Services as a precautionary measure and Casale refused medical attention.

Nolan Casale was charged with the felony counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance and tampering with physical evidence. He was also charged with the misdemeanors of obstruction of governmental administration and resisting arrest. He was also charged with Driving While Ability Impaired/Alcohol.

He was arraigned in the Town of New Paltz Court in front of Judge Weires and released on his own recognizance.
