Two shootings in one evening in City of Newburgh

NEWBURGH – City Police in Newburgh are investigating two shooting incidents detected by Shot Spotter in less than two hours on Tuesday, March 15.

At 8:10 p.m., police responded to the area of South and Lander streets for a report of shots fired and recovered four shell casings. While canvasing, officers recovered a projective in a parked and unoccupied vehicle’s headrest and another projectile on the sidewalk on Lander Street.

Minutes before 10 p.m., police were notified of another ShotSpotter notification in the area of 33 Clark Street indicating that 13 rounds had been fired.

The police department also received several phone calls from residents reporting gunfire.

Officers found 13 expended shell casings and identified two vehicles and two residences that had been struck by gunfire.

One vehicle was occupied by a man and woman who were uninvolved but were caught in the middle of the gunfire. The woman was struck by shrapnel that traveled through her seat. She did not seek medical attention.

Police are looking for any witnesses who may have been in the area at the time of the incidents. Anyone with information is asked to call Newburgh City Police at 845-569-7509.
