LAGRANGE – The initial investigation into the accident between a school bus and a New York State Police patrol vehicle on March 8 happened because the bus failed to stop at a stop sign.  A 59-year-old bus aide, Robin Alvarez, was killed in the collision.

State Police say that the State Police Ford Explorer, operated by Trooper Christopher Batista, was eastbound on Route 55, in a non-emergency status.  The school bus, owned by the Arlington Central School District, was northbound on South Cross Road and failed to stop at the stop sign while attempting to enter State Route 55.

The two vehicles collided, and the bus then struck a utility pole.

Alvarez was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the wreck, police said.  She  was pronounced dead at the scene.

State Police say that the investigation is ongoing.
