NEWBURGH – A state grant to be applied to the restoration of the Dutch Reform Church in Newburgh remains unspent since awarded in 2004 and city officials hope to use it as seed money to secure additional funding to restore the historic Greek Revival-style building.

Mayor Torrance Harvey said the city wants to take advantage of the opportunity to revitalize the Grand Street building.

“I am excited to see any and every effort made to continue to stabilize, restore and revitalize that church. It’s a really, really important historical treasure to the City of Newburgh and the entire Hudson Valley,” he said.

The city plans to hire a consultant to seek additional funds for the work on the building that has been damaged by years of neglect.
