Mount Vernon man arrested for murder

MOUNT VERNON – A Mount Vernon man was arrested on Sunday, March 6, in connection with a murder that occurred on Friday. March 4.

Heyward Bradshaw III was arrested in the early evening for shooting 41-year-old Kwasi Kirton to death. He was also from Mount Vernon.

If convicted, he faces 25 years to life in prison.

Police said during an altercation Bradshaw pulled a semi-automatic handgun and fired at Kirton, hitting him several times.

Following the shooting, Bradshaw fled the scene but Mount Vernon detectives, working with the FBI Westchester Safe Streets Task Force, were able to track him a home on Palmer Street in the Bronx.

He was taken into custody as he left the house with two other men.

Police said Bradshaw has a criminal history dating back to 2006 and includes arrests for weapons possession, burglary and criminal contempt.

He was held pending arraignment.
