Eye doc sentenced to federal prison for fraud

WHITE PLAINS – An Ophthalmologist from Rye has been sentenced to eight years in federal prison for orchestrating a seven-year healthcare fraud scheme by falsely billing for millions of dollars of upcoded procedures, and for fraudulently obtaining two government-guaranteed loans intended to help small businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic while he was facing charges on pretrial release for the healthcare fraud scheme.

U.S. District Court Judge Cathy Seibel sentenced Dr. Ameet Goyal saying his scheme was “about greed.”

Goyal was also sentenced to five years of post-release supervision and ordered to pay forfeiture of $3.6 million and restitution of $3.6 million. He already p-aid some $1.,79 million.
