Mayor Joseph DeStefano delivers his state of the city address

MIDDLETOWN – Crime is down, business and economic development are up, and Middletown is a city on the move. That was the message from Mayor Joseph DeStefano in his annual state of the city address Wednesday evening.

The mayor outlined many of the accomplishments of last year including near completion of the Heritage Trail, upgrades to the Paramount Theater, “the jewel of the city,” and the many infrastructure projects completed.

“The US Census numbers, recently released, show the City of Middletown to be the fourth fastest growing city in New York State; that’s four out of 62,” he said. “This is the result of the good work we are doing, the good work that our school district is doing, and the many opportunities that are offered both in our community, recreational facilities and through our school district. And, the opportunities for people, children and families are endless and they want to live here and do business here.”

DeStefano did have criticism for the state’s criminal justice reform saying no bail for repeat nuisance offenders has turned them into a danger to the community.
