POUGHKEEPSIE – Eighty-five bowlers took to the lanes on Sunday to support the City of Poughkeepsie Police Athletic League (PAL) during the PAL’s 5th annual bowlathon.  A few thousand dollars were raised, according to City of Poughkeepsie Police Detective Chris Libolt.

“We had a great turnout of police, firefighters, court officers, and others that showed up to raise money for the PAL,” Libolt said.  “The event was a success thanks to the bowlers, donors, and the generosity of sponsors including Dr. Rich Whalen and Baroni Scrap Metal.”

The event was held at Spins Bowl in Wappingers Falls, and the staff worked diligently to make the event a success, according to Libolt.  Team Viola

The annual knocking down of pins and countless gutter balls is the PAL’s largest fundraiser of the year.  It supports the PAL’s efforts to help Poughkeepsie youth get involved in activities that provide safe, fun events for the kids.

The PAL sponsors youth sports teams and hosts an annual fishing derby at Morgan Lake.  The money raised has helped provide dozens of fishing poles to young participants while handing out hundreds of free smiles.
