NEW YORK CITY – The Metropolitan Transit Authority is reinstating the peak fares for commuters using Metro-North and Long Island Rail Road service on March 1st.  The peak fares had been waived during the pandemic.

Ridership was down on the trains during the pandemic and the MTA is offering new pricing plans to encourage monthly ticket holders to return to the rails.  Beginning on February 25, monthly ticket holders will receive a 10 percent discount on their passes.  “Depending on where you travel, you can save up to 61 percent off one-way peak travel,” the MTA said.

Semi-monthly riders will be provided with a new ticketing option as well.  The MTA is offering a new 20-trip ticket that will save riders 20 percent compared to regular peak fare rates.  The new ticket option will be available on the MTA eTix on February 25 and at ticket windows on March 1.
