A car accident resulted in a house being struck by a BMW.
POUGHKEEPSIE – City police and firefighters responded to a three-car accident Thursday afternoon that resulted in one of the vehicles slamming into a house.
City 911 dispatch received a report of an accident at the intersection of Baker Street and Worrall Avenue around 3:00 p.m. Thursday afternoon.  One of the vehicles involved, a late-model BMW left the roadway and plowed into the front porch of 31 Worrall Avenue.  The female driver of that car was injured during the wreck.
First responders had to take additional precautions prior to removing the woman because the two-story front porch sustained major structural damage and was at risk of collapsing.
The woman was eventually extricated and transported to a Poughkeepsie hospital with minor injuries while police officers investigated the accident.  No other injuries were reported.
The city’s building inspectors recommended that the porches be stabilized with heavy lumber before the car could be pulled out from under the first-floor porch.  Officials were fearful that the old porches with previously undetected weather damage would collapse if the car was pulled out before the structure was reinforced.
After a lengthy debate, Brandl’s Towing was summoned to the scene with heavy-rescue equipment and successfully removed the vehicle.
The City of Poughkeepsie police are still investigating the cause of the accident.  No traffic tickets were issued to any of the motorists at the scene.
