GOSHEN – A Port Jervis man pled guilty in Orange County Court on Wednesday to assault of a police officer in connection with an incident where a Port Jervis City Police officer was seriously injured.

The guilty plea came during jury selection in the case of 38-year-old Guy Dixon.

On August 16, 2021, police were called to a residence on Barcelow Street in Port Jervis for a report of a domestic violence-related robbery.

Dixon, who was alleged to have forcibly stolen the cell phone belonging to the mother of his child, yelled at and taunted the officers from the porch and vestibule of the home.

When officers attempted to speak to him and arrest him, he slammed the door onto one of the officers, causing a glass insert to shatter,  resulting in an officer sustaining serious lacerations to his hand, which required immediate medical attention and subsequent surgery.

“Those who cause injury to police officers who are doing the crucial job that keeps us all safe must be held accountable for their actions,” said District Attorney David Hoovler.
